WHAT ARE THE GOALS?
•Be Loving.
•Educate, Encourage, Empower those affected by mental illness
•Abolish mental illness myths & misunderstandings
•Eradicate stigma surrounding diseases of the brain
•Write Creatively. Speak provocatively. Live passionately
•Inspire Hope
These are the goals as Kate McLaughlin combines personal experience and a positive attitude with current research and proven strategies to write, speak and advocate about all things mental health (and other equally important stuff).
Early in her career, Kate taught elementary school, coordinated special programs and trained fellow educators for over a decade. Switching gears to pursue her lifelong passion to write, Kate produced dozens of columns and articles for Southern Progress Corporation, a subsidiary of Time-Warner, as well as three books, including her most recent, Mommy I’m Still In Here: One family’s journey with bipolar disorder.
In addition to writing her own blog, Kate regularly contributes to several on-line forums and e-zines, including Revolution Health, MomBloggers Club and NAMI’s ‘Caring and Sharing’. She is a member of the Child and Adolescent Bipolar Foundation, Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance, the Juvenile Bipolar Research Foundation, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, and Mental Health America; and she participates in several mental health speakers bureaus. Kate frequently presents to students, educators, parents, and mental health consumers.
If you have a group who would benefit from her wit, honesty and information-packed sessions, feel free to contact Kate.
